Paulinho scores and Toluca advances to the Mexican championship

A 3-2 victory in the second leg of the semi-finals against Monterrey, featuring Sergio Ramos.

With a goal from Paulinho, Toluca beat Monterrey 3-2 in the early hours of this morning, securing their place in the Apertura final in Mexico.

After a 1-0 away defeat in the first leg of the semi-finals , the team of the Portuguese forward beat the side of Sergio Ramos and former FC Porto player Óliver Torres – Corona did not play due to injury.

At the start of the second half, Helinho (51m) made it 3-0 from the penalty spot, but Monterrey responded. In the 58th minute, also from the penalty spot, Sergio Ramos reduced the deficit and, in the final quarter of an hour, Roberto de la Rosa scored the visitors’ second goal.

With the tie ending in a 3-3 draw, Toluca advanced to the final, benefiting from their ranking in the first phase of the Mexican championship.

In their quest for a second consecutive championship, Toluca will face Tigres, who eliminated Cruz Azul.
