The Frenchman still has two games in 2025 to equal the Portuguese player’s record for goals in a calendar year while playing for Real Madrid.

Kylian Mbappé is having a stratospheric 2025, having already scored 56 goals between January and December, just three goals away from equaling Cristiano Ronaldo’s record at Real Madrid, set in 2013 with a total of 59 goals.

Last Sunday, the French international opened the scoring in Real Madrid’s 2-1 victory away to Alavés , scoring his 56th goal of the calendar year 2025. This leaves the French forward just three goals away from matching Cristiano Ronaldo’s record set in 2013, and he still has two games to play before the end of the year.

Kylian Mbappé will have an opportunity to get closer to the 59-goal mark set by his idol, Cristiano Ronaldo, next Wednesday when Real Madrid face the modest Talavera in the Round of 32 of the Copa del Rey, and if he is not used in this game, he will have another opportunity the following Sunday when the Santiago Bernabéu club hosts Sevilla in a Spanish league match.

A mission that is well within reach of the French striker, since he only needs one more hat-trick to equal Cristiano Ronaldo’s record and, in 2025 alone, he has already scored four [Valladolid, Manchester City, Barcelona and Kairat Almaty], in addition to four goals against Olympiakos.

It would be the icing on the cake of a sensational 2025, after finishing the last season with nine goals in the last five matches, surpassing Viktor Gyökeres (Sporting) and Lewandowski (Barcelona) in the race for the Golden Boot.

Following his excellent end to the season, Mbappé then had a spectacular start to the season, directly involved in almost two-thirds of Real Madrid’s goals in 2025/26 (47 goals), with a total of 26 goals and 4 assists.

At the rate he’s been scoring goals, Mbappé is also threatening Cristiano Ronaldo’s record for goals in a single season, with the 61 goals the Portuguese player scored in the 2014/15 season.
