The current Sporting player scored 27 goals for Almería last season.
Luis Suárez, who joined Sporting from Almería in the last summer transfer window, attended the Marca awards gala on Monday night at the Casino de Madrid to receive the award for top scorer in the Spanish Second Division for the past season.
The Uruguayan forward took the opportunity to comment on the move to Lisbon: “It’s a new beginning, a new chapter in my career. I’m very happy, actually. My family and I are doing very well in Lisbon. We’re really enjoying this season.” Suárez arrived at Sporting after a dream season in Spain, scoring 27 goals in 41 league games, which earned him the Pichichi award in the second division.
“I’m very happy to receive this award. It’s the culmination of a whole season of work. I’m very grateful to my teammates at Almería; without them, this wouldn’t be possible. […] The second division was complicated. Now in Portugal I have new challenges. Hopefully, more goals will come,” said the striker during the award ceremony.
