The statement defends the photojournalists’ refusal to sign a document to access the pitch, as proposed by the club.

The Journalists’ Union (SJ) is asking photojournalists to refuse to sign a document with impositions established by FC Porto for working at the Estádio do Dragão, reminding them that they are already covered by press law and the code of ethics.

In a statement published this Wednesday, the Journalists’ Union (SJ) reminds that the Professional Journalist Card, whose issuance frames professionals in compliance with ethical, deontological and legal requirements, is sufficient for the granting of accreditations for public events, further emphasizing that journalists are already obliged to comply with the Press Law and the Journalist Statute and also have an Ethical and Deontological Code that is the basis for the exercise of the profession.According to the union, the document that FC Porto proposed to photojournalists for Wednesday’s game against Benfica in the Portuguese Cup contains clauses that are “absolutely unacceptable” because they “restrict the exercise of the profession and are therefore liable to violate the Press Law, which is a crime under Portuguese law.

According to the document, FC Porto intends to prevent or limit the entry of people who “misuse photos taken in the context of an event of public interest.” Photographers are thus prevented from selling images to players and club staff, limiting the subsequent use of material captured on duty.

According to the Journalists’ Union (SJ), FC Porto has an “easy solution” to control this issue, which involves only allowing “access to photojournalists with professional credentials” at matches in the Dragão stadium.
