Giuseppe Marotta says that the Portuguese player has a contract that no Italian team could afford.

Inter Milan president Giuseppe Marotta confirmed that the “Nerazzurri” are interested in the return of João Cancelo.

“We don’t have great needs and this market offers few opportunities. But, as we have problems with Denzel Dumfries’ recovery, we want to see if the market can bring the opportunity to have a player who has those characteristics. It’s an opportunity we’re going to explore. We’ll see what happens, we’re in an intermediate phase,” Marotta told DAZN microphones, before the victory over Bologna (3-0) .

Despite the interest in the Portuguese international, the Inter president issued a warning and also commented on Al Hilal’s intention to sign a central defender, namely Francesco Acerbi or Stefan de Vrij.

He has a contract that no Italian team could afford. The situation is very particular. If we accept a swap, they want a centre=back. When we enter into negotiations, we assess what to do. Everything must be done to fix the right=back position, which is suffering from Dumfries’ absence, he added.

Cancelo has reportedly clashed with Simone Inzaghi, his former coach at Inter. The 31-year-old full-back has only played six games for Al Hilal this season and is expected to be left out of the Saudi league squad for the second half of the season.

The international press reports that Barcelona is also paying close attention to this situation.

It is worth remembering that Cancelo played for Inter in 2017/18, at the time on loan from Valencia.
