A goal by Samuel Lino, formerly of Gil Vicente, confirms the victory for the red-and-blacks and the subsequent title. The team coached by Abel Ferreira defeats Atlético Mineiro 3-0.

Flamengo are the Brazilian champions! And Palmeiras’ dream, which was already difficult, is over.

Four days after winning the Libertadores Cup, the team coached by Filipe Luís secured the Brasileirão title by beating Ceará 1-0 at home in a match of the 37th round, with a goal from Samuel Lino, former Gil Vicente player.

It’s true that Palmeiras, after a terrible run of results, returned to winning ways in style with a 3-0 victory away to Atlético Mineiro. However, Flamengo only needed a win in their own half and didn’t let up at the Maracanã, and the Flamengo celebrations will continue this week. The night started better for Palmeiras than for Flamengo in the title race. In their visit to Atlético Mineiro, in a match counting towards matchday 34, Flaco López opened the scoring in the ninth minute and, in the 20th minute, Allan doubled the lead. At the same time, Flamengo remained tied, and this combination of results still gave Palmeiras hope for the final matchday. However, Samuel Lino gave Flamengo the lead in the 37th minute, bringing his team closer to celebrating, while Palmeiras were threatened with a shot that hit the post and Carlos Miguel making a save in goal to prevent Mineiro from making it 2-1.

Just before halftime, Piquerez was sent off, and Abel Ferreira, on the substitutes’ bench, repeatedly said “shame” to the refereeing team. But even with a numerical disadvantage, Palmeiras increased their lead near the final whistle, with Luighi, who had just come on for Vitor Roque, making it 3-0 in the 81st minute. This came shortly after Rony had a goal disallowed for the home team, with the help of VAR, for a foul on Carlos Miguel.

Flamengo’s ninth title

Flamengo confirmed their victory at the Maracanã, succeeding Botafogo as champions, winning the title for the first time since 2020 and, in total, according to titles recognized by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), for the ninth time. Flamengo has moved ahead of Santos (eight) as the second club with the most titles, behind only Palmeiras’ 12.
