Ramadan Sobhi is also serving a four=year suspension for failing a doping control test.

He was once nicknamed the Messi of Egypt, but at 28, he was sentenced to a year in prison for fraud, after already having problems with doping. For Ramadan Sobhi, a Pyramids player who played in the Premier League for Stoke and Huddersfield, 2025 was a year full of controversies.

The prison sentence was handed down after Egyptian authorities were proven guilty of falsifying documents along with Sobhi and three other defendants in the case while studying at the Pharaonic Higher Institute of Tourism and Hospitality in Cairo.

One of the accusations leveled against Ramadan Sobhi is that he forced someone to take academic exams in his place.

The Egyptian press reports that Sobhi’s current club, Pyramids, will respect the decision, which can still be appealed.

The one-year prison sentence imposed on the player follows a heavy four-year suspension handed down by the Court of Arbitration for Sport after he failed a doping test in March 2024. Having represented Egypt internationally 38 times, Ramadan Sobhi boasts an impressive resume, with two African Champions League titles and four Egyptian league titles as highlights.
