The award ceremony preceded the draw for the group stage of the 2026 World Cup.

FIFA awarded Donald Trump, President of the United States of America, the Peace Prize, an award it created this year. The presentation of the trophy, a ball held by several hands in shades of gold, took place before the draw for the group stage of the 2026 World Cup, which is being held in Washington.“It’s one of the greatest honors of my life,” Trump admitted, before giving some examples that justify the awarding of the prize.

“We saved millions and millions of people. Congo is an example of that. More than 10 million people died and many more would have died. Then we have India, Pakistan and so many other wars that we managed to end. And others that we ended before they even started. We managed to do that,” said the President of the United States of America, alongside FIFA leader Gianni Infantino.

“I want to thank everyone. The world is safer now. The United States wasn’t doing very well a year ago, but now I can say we’re the most fashionable country in the world. Thank you,” concluded Donald Trump. The US president and their counterparts from Canada and Mexico, Mark Carney and Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo respectively, opened the World Cup group stage draw by drawing the balls corresponding to their countries.
