Sporting Braga’s creative player aims for an unprecedented Under-17 World Cup title.
João Aragão firmly believes in Portugal winning the U-17 World Cup for the first time and, therefore, in a victory over Austria in the final in Doha, Qatar, on Thursday. The 17-year-old playmaker from Sporting Braga reiterated this belief on Tuesday.
“We’ve already made history by reaching the final, but that’s how we like it. We’re a generation with a lot of quality, a lot of unity, and we’re very close to making history again. It’s going to be a final against a very difficult team. They weren’t in the European Championship, but they deserve to be in the World Cup final, as they’ve already eliminated some great teams. We’ll approach this game like all the others, always with our eyes set on victory. The group was confident [for the penalty shootout against Brazil] , as was the case in the European Championship. Fortunately, victory smiled upon us, but we also worked very hard to achieve it. The group was very united, we believed in each other a lot,” said the attacking midfielder.
Portugal and Austria will face each other on Thursday at 4 pm, at the Khalifa International Stadium.
