The Prime Minister received the delegation before their departure for the USA.

The Portuguese national team departed this Friday for Palm Beach, in Miami, to compete in the 2026 World Cup , but before that, the Portuguese delegation was received by Prime Minister Luís Montenegro.

The head of government received the Portuguese navy in a ceremony held at his official residence in Lisbon, and wished them confidence and strength. We are together, looking at this competition with our feet firmly on the ground, but with great confidence and strength so that these heroes of the sea, these heroes of Portugal, can feel this support.

Montenegro also urged the players to have fun and not be afraid to make mistakes.

“To win, to succeed, you need to dare, take risks and act, and that is what I am certain, on behalf of the Portuguese people, that you will do. Be ambitious, dare, dream and trust that your ability and talent are, in fact, extraordinary, he expressed.

Pedro Proenca, president of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), was also present at the ceremony and expressed his ambition and confidence that Portugal can emerge victorious from the World Cup. I have said many times, with humility and without arrogance: we will assume our role. We have eight finals ahead of us in which we can do what has not been done until now, and I conclude by saying that we are all going with great conviction that this year Portugal will win.

There was still time for a photograph of the players and Roberto Martínez with the Prime Minister and the leader of the Portuguese Football Federation, and to sing the national anthem.
