Morocco’s national team coach, Mohamed Ouahbi, announced on Tuesday the list of 26 players (plus three reserves) called up for the 2026 World Cup, which does not include Yanis Begraoui, forward for Estoril, who was among the pre=selected players for the Moroccan team .
Begraoui was part of the preparatory training camp that ended this Tuesday with a 5-0 victory against Burundi in Sale, with two goals from Ayoub El Kaabi (59m, 63m), one from Tawfik Bentayeb (71m) and two from Soufiane Benjdida (80m, 90m).
In addition to Begraoui, several other notable players will miss the World Cup. For example, the starting attacking trio who lost the 2022 World Cup semi-final against France 2-0 are absent: Youssef En-Nesyri, Sofiane Boufal, and Hakim Ziyech. Also out are Ilias Akhomach, Eliesse Ben Seghir, Amine Adli, and Bentayeb, who scored in Tuesday’s game.
Morocco is in Group C of the 2026 World Cup, where its opponents will be Brazil, Scotland, and Haiti.
In the last World Cup, in 2022, held in Qatar, the African team finished in fourth place, after eliminating Portugal in the quarter=finals.
