The captain of Sporting Braga believes he could be called up by Martínez, but acknowledges that the coach’s choices “are difficult.
Ricardo Horta hasn’t played for the national team in over two years, but he maintains hope of being called up for the 2026 World Cup. The Sporting Braga captain scored in Saturday’s victory against Famalicão (2-1) and promised to give Roberto Martínez a “headache”.
“I don’t think about it too much, I try to do my job. I know there are choices that have to be made, that are difficult. I’m going to do my job. As our coach said , give the national team coach headaches with goals and assists. Given the moment I’m in, if I continue like this, I’m going to give him headaches. But I don’t think about that. I think about helping Sp. Braga with victories,” said the Braga forward to Sport TV microphones. Horta, 31, has ten goals and five assists in 24 games for Sp. Braga this season. It is the Portuguese international’s ninth season with double-digit goalscoring figures.
