Arsenal’s qualification for next season’s Champions League allows Sporting Lisbon to increase their financial gain from the Swedish player. If he plays at least 45 minutes in Madrid, he will be worth an additional €1.25 million.
Arsenal’s already secured qualification for the 2026/27 Champions League group stage allows Sporting to guarantee another million euros from the transfer of Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres to the English club.
This was one of the variables foreseen in the deal between Sporting and Arsenal, with Sporting having already secured, during this season, an additional 1.75 million euros in bonuses for Gyokeres : 500,000 euros for 20 goal and assist contributions (when he scored against Southampton on April 4th) and 1.25 million euros for 20 games with a minimum of 45 minutes played (a record achieved on January 3rd, against Bournemouth).
These 2.75 million euros, added to the fixed 65.764 million euros of the transfer, allow Sporting to currently have an approximate income of 68.514 million euros from the Swedish international striker.
The financial compensation could reach a maximum of approximately 76.02 million euros. This is because there could be an additional 3.75 million euros for three more installments of 20 games each with at least 45 minutes played, plus 500,000 euros for 20 more goal/assist contributions, and a further 3 million euros if Arsenal manages to qualify for the Champions League again in future seasons.
The price could rise as early as Wednesday.
And Sporting can rub their hands with glee once again this Wednesday, with the possibility of pocketing another €1.25 million for the Swede in the Atlético de Madrid-Arsenal first leg of the Champions League semi-finals. This is because the Nordic player, out of the 48 games he has played for the club this season, has played a total of 39 games with at least 45 minutes of playing time. Therefore, if he plays at least 45 minutes in the Spanish capital, he will complete another 20 games, which could earn Sporting another €1.25 million.
A further 500,000 euros bonus for every 20 goal and assist contributions is still far off. This is because the Swede, after scoring against Southampton, only scored against Bournemouth, meaning he needs 19 more contributions to reach that bonus.
The division of bonuses agreed between Sporting and Arsenal upon Gyokeres’ transfer to Arsenal for €65.7 million:
Every 20 games (only those played for at least 45 minutes count) yield 1.25 million euros – up to a limit of 5 million (1.25 million euros have already been guaranteed);
Every 20 goal and assist contributions earn 500,000 euros – up to a maximum of 1 million euros (500,000 euros have already been guaranteed);
Each qualification for the Champions League stage is worth €1 million – up to a limit of €4 million (one million euros has already been guaranteed).
