The Portuguese forward rested ahead of the CONCACAF Champions League match.

Toluca, where Portuguese player Paulinho plays, saw victory slip away at the final whistle, drawing at home against Atlético San Luis in a match of the 14th round of the Mexican Clausura tournament on Sunday night.

Paulinho was one of several players rested for the CONCACAF Champions League final against Los Angeles Galaxy next Wednesday, a game in which the goals only came in the second half.

Uruguayan Franco Rossi scored the first goal for Toluca in the 72nd minute, but with just over 30 seconds remaining in the four minutes of added time, a penalty was awarded, causing some controversy and outrage from Toluca, in a decision confirmed with the help of the video assistant referee (VAR). From the penalty spot, João Pedro Galvao, who stood out at Estoril in 2013/14 before moving to Cagliari (after a short spell at V. Guimaraes in 2010/11), made it 1-1 in the 90+7th minute.

Toluca is fifth in the standings with 27 points, the same as fourth=placed Pumas, and one point behind Cruz Azul and Pachuca, second and third respectively, with 28 points. Chivas leads with 31 points. On Wednesday (early Thursday morning, the 16th, in Portugal, at 2:00 AM), Toluca visits LA Galaxy for the second leg of the CONCACAF Champions League quarter-finals. In the first leg, the Mexicans won 4-2, with a hat=trick from Paulinho .
