La Liga will debut the retro round this weekend to bring back memories of Spanish football’s past.

This weekend marks the arrival of La Liga’s highly anticipated Retro Matchday. For the first time in its history, the top Spanish league will host a matchday entirely dedicated to the retro theme.

Between April 10th and 13th, all matches = both in the Liga (31st round) and the II Liga (35th round) = will have an atmosphere reminiscent of the past.

The clubs will therefore take to the pitch wearing retro jerseys. These special editions = which will thrill any sports jersey enthusiast = will help fans transport themselves to “another era,” as La Liga puts it.

However, the retro theme isn’t just about the equipment. The ball itself, already unveiled , will also be a tribute to the past. Furthermore, the broadcast graphics will be inspired by past decades.

The objective is clear: for fans not only to watch the games, but to feel as if they are traveling through time, experiencing football from a different emotional and sensory perspective, La Liga said in a statement.

However, there will be exceptions.

This event, approved by the vast majority of clubs, will not have the participation of all of them.

According to the newspaper AS, teams such as Real Madrid, Barcelona, Rayo Vallecano and Getafe will not be using retro jerseys in this round.

Nevertheless, the last three agreed to participate in promotional activities, such as the fashion show that took place during Madrid Fashion Week a few weeks ago. It is expected that they will also participate in this event next season, wearing retro jerseys.

Real Madrid, for its part, completely distanced itself from the initiative.
