Mexicans overcome San Diego FC with an aggregate score of 6-3 over the two legs.

Toluca hosted and thrashed San Diego FC 4-0, thus securing their place in the quarter-finals of the CONCACAF Champions League.

Paulinho started for the Mexican team, who could have taken the lead in the 23rd minute, had Bruno Méndez not had a goal disallowed for offside. Nevertheless, the 1-0 scoreline arrived just before halftime, with Angulo finishing into the back of the net to level the tie at three goals each, after their defeat in the first leg (3-2).

The second half began with a moment of pure class from Paulinho, who responded perfectly to Gallardo’s cross and backheeled the ball into the net for Toluca’s second goal. This was the Portuguese international’s 26th goal of the season in 37 appearances for the first team. Shortly after, another goal for the home team, this time by the scorer of the first goal. In a somewhat chaotic play inside the San Diego FC penalty area, the ball reached Angulo’s feet and he scored his second goal of the match. Then, in stoppage time, Gallardo sealed the tie and secured passage to the quarter=finals of the competition.
