Mazzitelli scores Cagliari’s only goal in their victory over Juventus, who did not have Francisco Conceição in their starting lineup.

Just days before hosting Benfica for the penultimate round of the Champions League group stage, Juventus travelled to Cagliari and lost 1-0 , in a game where Francisco Conceição was a substitute.

If we only looked at the statistics, it would be unthinkable to look at the result and believe that the home team would win. Juventus dominated the entire first half and didn’t allow their opponents a single shot on goal, so Cagliari took advantage of their only scoring opportunity to score. Later in the second half, more specifically in the 65th minute, Mazzitelli responded perfectly to a cross and fired a precise shot into the back of the net. This moment forced Spaletti to make a change, bringing on Conceição with just over ten minutes remaining, but to no avail.

This was Juventus’ first defeat since December 7th. They remain in fifth place in the Italian League with 39 points, but could see Roma pull away in the standings, as Roma currently occupy the Champions League qualifying spot.
