Brazilian striker scores twice, reaching 14 goals in the championship. Académico reinforces its second-place position and aims for the top spot.

Académico de Viseu achieved their second consecutive victory in the Second League this Friday, at home against União de Leiria (2-0). In a match of the 18th round, the first goal was scored by forward André Clóvis 19 seconds into the second half. Amidst rebounds, midfielder Luís Silva cleared the ball haphazardly, eventually setting up the striker, who accelerated solo into the area and opened the scoring.

Although União de Leiria increased their attacking pressure, the “Viriatos” maintained their lead. The Lis team debuted defender Marcelo = formerly of Moreirense = and the centre=back was in the starting lineup .

At the final whistle, Clóvis scored his second goal in the 90+2 minute, when the visitors were pinned back in attack. The striker reached his 17th goal of the season and reinforced his lead among the top scorers in the Second League. The Brazilian forward has 14 goals in the championship, seven ahead of Tamble Monteiro (Portimonense), Zamora (Ac. Viseu), Carlos Daniel (Marítimo) and Roberto (Desp. Chaves).

This result allows Académico de Viseu to strengthen their second place, with 32 points, four behind leaders Marítimo . Next up is a visit to Paços de Ferreira (14th), on Friday (6pm).

Meanwhile, União de Leiria remains in sixth place with 24 points and is looking forward to hosting Vizela (4th) = a team in a promotion playoff spot with 27 points = on Wednesday (6 pm). This is a rescheduled match from the 16th round.
