Marcelo is preparing to end his time at Moreirense and return to the Second Division, this time with União de Leiria. As reported in the national press and confirmed by Maisfutebol , the 36-year-old central defender – whose contract was due to expire in June – has reached an agreement to terminate it and is in the final stages of negotiations with the Leiria club.

After 63 games across two seasons, the Brazilian only played 13 matches under Vasco Botelho da Costa, scoring one goal. Therefore, as Maisfutebol understands , Marcelo has expressed his desire to play regularly, an ambition understood by the Moreirense management.

The official announcement of the agreement with União de Leiria will take place this week. The Leiria club is currently 7th in the Second Division , five points away from the promotion zone. Moreirense, on the other hand, is sixth in the First Division, one point away from the European places .

Born in Rio de Janeiro, Marcelo trained at Vasco da Gama and, in Portugal, played for Ribeirão, Rio Ave, Leixões, Sporting, Paços de Ferreira and Moreirense, in a career that also includes spells in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and the United States of America.
