In the preview to the match against Rio Ave, for the 16th round of the League, the Sporting coach commented on having received the Maisfutebol award for Personality of the Year . Rui Borges praised the team’s collective effort and adapted a well-known expression from Ruben Amorim.

“I feel flattered. A Personality of the Year award makes me seem like a very important person… And I honestly don’t think so [laughs]. I’m happy because it represents the team. I’m nobody if people don’t believe what I say. The trophies reflect the daily and annual work. I have a lot of confidence in our work. There are days that seem less good, but I always cling to them in a positive way. People say ‘it will go well’. And I say ‘it already went well’. I wish 2026 to be a very good year, with lots of health. If there’s health, we’ll chase after the rest.

Review of the year at Sporting

I didn’t have any difficult days, only happy ones. Even when we lost trophies, I was happy because I was competing for them and at Sporting. I’m always very positive; we don’t always win everything, but even on those days I was happy. The happiest day? That’s difficult. The presentation day is memorable for me. The championship day is every coach’s dream. And the Portuguese Cup day, especially because my parents were at the stadium.
